Over Flanders Fields
Wings of War WWI Aerial Warfare
It is March 1918, and the German Kaiserschlacht offensive is underway.
The Royal Flying Corps is pressed to the limit, with its pilots
exhausted and its airfields forced to secondary and tertiary locations.
A rag-tag group of Triple Entente fighters are patrolling to try and
hold back the tide. In the distance, they see...
Three
Friedrichshafen Multi-Engine Bombers! And escorts! With Allied ack-ack
overrun, a flight of the giants is coming to bomb airfields, hospitals,
churches, and who knows what else! Maybe the Louvre! No, not even the
Huns would stoop so low.
This is a
"Stop Them" mission designed for any number of players using the fast
and popular "Wings of War" miniatures. German players will attempt to
escort three mighty Friedrichshafen bombers across a (very) long map
into the Allied rear areas. Allied players will attempt to shoot down
the Friedrichshafens without getting shot down themselves.
Players
should bring their own Wings of War miniatures. Any released miniatures
may be used EXCEPT the Fokker D7 and Sopwith Snipe. If you have both
German and Allied aircraft, we'll need more Allied participants than
Germans (as the Friedrichshafens are quite tough!). Some loaners
available. No preregistration is required -- planes may join in at any
time, even coming into the battle late.
The scenario
is based upon the recently-released "Flight of the Giants" Wings of War
expansion. All Wings of War optional rules will be used. A simple
altitude system will be used and taught to players -- it is very easy
and intuitive, and will present no difficulty for players of Wings of
War who aren't familiar with it.
