2009 DBA Open Tournament
The 5th annual "Wars of Washington, DC" DBA
tournament was held on Saturday, 26 Sept. 2009 in conjunction with the
Congress of Gamers gaming
convention, at the Bauer Drive Community Center
in Rockville, MD.

Twelve contestants fought their way through four
rounds of head-to-head play. A number of atypical tournament armies were
fielded and did quite well, including Bosporans, Trojans and Tarascans.
It was a wide-open field going into the final
round...with no undefeated players. The two points leaders David Schlanger
(with Tarascans) and Jack Sheriff (with Trojans) squared off in a deciding
match-up...but ran afoul of the clock and ended up with no decision. David
Schlanger earned enough points in the draw to tie with Spencer Ginder, and took
overall honors based on his head-to-head win against Spencer in a previous
round. Spencer Ginder took second place honors. With the results,
both David and Spencer qualified for the NASAMW Invitational Tournament
Championship next July at Historicon. Gordon Stewart was the best DBV
"first-timer" and Christine Ginder took the "Butcher's Award" with 25 elements
of mayhem in four rounds of play. Full results and pictures coming soon, along
with results of the Rulers of the Nile tournament fought that evening.
