Introduction

This is the beta-test release of v2.2+.  The associated documents are Beta v2.2+ Playsheet (which is now version Beta 2), Beta v2.2+ BBDBA Playsheet, and Beta v2.2+ Change List.  Experienced players of v2.2 will want to focus on the playsheet, which is a short-form representation of the changes. The final release document (when it comes) will be a brief set of line edits on the v2.2 rules.  A copy of the v2.2 rules will be required to play. Copyright of the original v2.2 authors will be respected.

Design Philosophy

To make the best game possible. While this seems simple and straightforward, there is still necessary constraint. We are evolving the DBA 2.2 rules and we need to make sure that v2.2+ provides a gaming experience that continues to feel like DBA. We will shy away from changes that alter the basic mechanisms and pacing of the game.

Instructions to Playtesters

This is a beta-release. We are especially looking for play-testing to expose areas and issues that did not come up in the original design process. Blue-sky ideas, large-scale conceptual changes, and wholesale redesign are interesting thought exercises, but less useful at this point in the process.

When play-testing, please play-test the whole beta rather than picking and choosing from the changes -- many of the changes are linked, and discarding some and using others will make it difficult for us to evaluate your response and weight your feedback properly. Feedback and playtest reports may be posted on the Fanaticus Forum, on the DBA yahoo group, or sent to us directly at WADBAG@gmail.com.

Note that the volume of responses will probably mean that it will not be possible to have an official response to every play-test report. With that said, note also that most of the participants in the GM list that developed the beta version you will be play-testing are also participants on these fora; some may choose to respond as individuals, representing their own opinions, answering questions, and the like. This is one of the benefits of an active, vibrant community, but such responses are not official responses.
